Donation of Materials

Thank you for thinking of Georgina Public Library. Donations from our community support Friends of the Library fundraising initiatives, including book sales and in-branch sale shelves. Proceeds help fund library programs, services, and community initiatives.

Donations are accepted only during designated donation campaigns. Please check current donation dates before bringing materials to the Library.

Most donated items are used for Friends of the Library fundraising. In rare circumstances, items may be reviewed by library staff for potential inclusion in the collection in accordance with the Library’s Collection Development Policy.

All donated materials become the property of Georgina Public Library once accepted.

Material donations are accepted only during announced donation campaigns. Dates and details will be shared on the Library website, social media, and in-branch signage.

If a campaign is not currently running, we are unable to accept donated materials.

We accept gently used items in excellent condition, including:

  • Hardcover and paperback books
  • Children’s books
  • Recent fiction and nonfiction
  • DVDs, Blu-rays, CDs, and audiobooks in their original cases

Items must be clean, dry, and free from damage, mold, or excessive markings.

We cannot accept:

  • Damaged or musty items
  • Encyclopedias, textbooks, or workbooks
  • Magazines
  • VHS tapes, cassette tapes, or outdated media formats
  • Professional or academic journals
  • Items containing AI-generated writing or illustrations
  • Items offered with the expectation they will be added to the Library’s collection

If we cannot accept your items, please consider donating them to a local thrift store, community organization, or recycling depot.

Once accepted, donated materials may be sold through Friends of the Library book sales, added to in-branch sale shelves, donated to community organizations, used in library programs, or recycled.

Because of the volume of donations received, the Library cannot provide updates about the status of specific donated items. The Library does not issue tax receipts for material donations, and items cannot be returned once donated.

Financial Donations

Everyone has their own reason to give to their public library, whether it is the value in your life since childhood, or as a student, growing family, senior, hobbyist, or job seeker, or simply because you recognize the value of a vibrant library to community well-being.
