What is the Visiting Library Service?
Georgina Public Library offers a visiting library service (VLS) to members of our local community who are unable to visit the library in person for an extended period due to disability, illness, or surgery. If you think you would benefit from this service, please call any of our branches or email us.
How Visiting Library Service Works?
|
- It is a volunteer service organized by our friendly staff.
- Library materials are made available to Georgina residents who are unable to access our locations.
- We offer a bi-monthly (every 2-4 weeks) delivery service which consists of library materials being selected, checked out, delivered, picked up, and returned back to the library.
- VLS patrons can request that library staff select materials for them with the understanding that their delivery schedule will then be no shorter than 3-4 weeks. In some cases, the volunteer driver can take on the role of selecting materials for the VLS user, if the volunteer and the VLS user would prefer.
- Or if VLS patrons are comfortable using our website to select their own materials and manage their holds, they can do so.
- Volunteer drivers would appreciate if materials to be returned to the library are ready to go when pick up is scheduled to occur.
- Visiting Library Service (VLS) members are encouraged to make in-person visits with friends or family if they are able. VLS volunteers are not authorized to transport VLS patrons to our branches.
- There are no fines charged for books, audio books, or music CDs.
- Items may not be renewed if the items have holds on them.
- Because magazines can be difficult to keep track of, we are unable to lend magazines to VLS patrons living in nursing homes.
- Items with a one-week borrowing period cannot be borrowed.
- Books borrowed on a patron's behalf through interlibrary loan from libraries may have restrictions -- please speak to library staff for details.
- Volunteers and VLS patrons will not be held responsible for lost materials. Lost materials need to be reported to library staff.
