Suggest a Purchase

Suggest a Purchase

Can't find the item you want on Georgina Public Library shelves or in our online catalogue? We invite you to suggest that we purchase a copy of the item by submitting a request.

All purchase suggestions are reviewed in accordance with the Library’s Collection Development Policy. Submission of a suggestion does not guarantee purchase. Due to high volume, we cannot guarantee a response to every suggestion.

Keep an eye on our catalogue to see if your item has been added to the Georgina Public Library collection. Library members are responsible for placing their own holds on the items they wanted, but if you do require assistance, don’t hesitate to contact any of our branches for assistance.

What You Can Suggest

Recently published materials

You may suggest physical materials such as books, audiobooks, DVDs, graphic novels, and other circulating formats supported by the Library, provided they were published within the last two years. The Library prioritizes recently published, high-interest titles intended for broad community use.

Digital materials
Suggestions for eBooks and downloadable audiobooks are limited by vendor availability and platform restrictions. If a title is not available through the Library’s current digital platforms, it may not be available for purchase.

Not yet published
Suggestions for titles that have not yet been released may be submitted. Purchase decisions are typically made closer to the publication date, and many popular titles are already on order and may appear in the catalogue prior to release.

What We’re Unable to Purchase

The Library does not purchase:

  • Items published more than two years ago (Interlibrary loan may be a better option)
  • Textbooks or materials required for specific courses or programs
  • Highly specialized, academic, or professional materials
  • Materials intended primarily for private, business, or commercial use
  • Items in formats the Library does not support or that are unavailable through approved vendors

After You Submit a Request

Purchase suggestions are reviewed periodically based on staff capacity, collection priorities, and available budget. Customers are encouraged to check the catalogue to see if a suggested item has been added to the collection.

Library members are responsible for placing their own holds on items they wish to borrow. Staff are happy to assist if needed.

Alternative Access

For items that fall outside these guidelines, Interlibrary Loan may be a faster and more appropriate option.
