Georgina  Public Library provides online access to magazines, newspapers, reference books, and downloadable audio and eBooks, free of charge, 24/7. Click on the links below to access eResources or browse the latest magazines and newspapers. To connect you will need your 14 digit Georgina Public Library card number. Don't have a physical library card? Get an online card. Under the current circumstances, online cards are good for 60 days. 

Canada in Context--Canada's history, authors, and First Nations

Canada in Context was created especially for researchers and educators studying Canada, its people, and its history. Canada in Context integrates many Gale resources -- like Worldmark Encyclopedia of Canadian provinces, Discovering Authors Canadian Edition, Native North American Almanac and more -- with media-rich options.

Canadian Points of View Reference Centre--Canadian issues

Canadian Points of View Reference Centre is a guide to debating, developing arguments, writing position papers, and development of critical thinking skills. Each Points of View essay includes a series of questions and additional material to generate further thought. Also included are thousands of supporting articles from the world's top political and societal publications.

Career Cruising--career guidance and planning tools

Career Cruising is a self-exploration and planning program that helps people of all ages achieve their potential in school, career and life.

The program enables patrons to complete personal assessments, explore career and school options, and build a portfolio of their interests, experiences, and skills. The result is a customized plan aligned to the user’s inputs, and reflective of their unique personality and attributes. With a robust career and school database, an embedded resume builder, and age appropriate exploratory activities, Career Cruising can be used by students for their post-secondary planning, or by job seekers to discover best-suited career options.

CPI.Q--Canadian magazines, newspapers, and journals

CPI.Q (Canadian Periodical Index Quarterly) is useful to libraries, professionals, researchers, government institutions and organizations. CPI.Q contains a wealth of Canadian and international periodicals, including: Canada's national newspaper, The Globe and Mail; Maclean's weekly magazine; Canadian News Facts; and encyclopedic reference materials, such as the Canadian Parliamentary Guide and Canadian Newsmakers.

EBSCO eBooks Canadian Subscription Collection--eBooks from Canadian authors

EBSCO eBooks Canadian Subscription Collection offers researchers thousands of eBooks from top Canadian publishers and authors. This e-book collection covers a diverse range of subjects including topics pertaining to Canada, Canadian history, native culture, politics and current events. 

eLibrary--assignment help
eLibrary covers topics such as history, science and mathematics, English language arts, sports and health, social and political sciences, and assignment topics such as famous people, controversial issues, careers, historical events, countries, and environmental issues.
FreegalMusic+®--Free and legal music to download and stream

Add songs to your Favorites or Playlists to keep track of music you are interested in! Your account also gives you access to unlimited music streaming. Streaming and Downloading Music

On a mobile device:

  • Tap an album or song to start listening.
  • Download a song by tapping the three dots on the right hand of the song, then tap Download Song.
  • View your downloaded songs or to download a song again by tapping the My Music icon at the bottom of the screen.

On a computer:

  • Listen to albums or songs online by hovering over the cover image and selecting the Play button.
  • Download a song by clicking the download button (down arrow) on the right side of the song.
  • View your downloaded songs or download a song again by clicking the My Music icon on the left side of the page.
FreegalMusic+® App on a Smartphone or Tablet
  • In the Google Play or Apple App Store, search for Freegal Music.
  • Install and open the app.
  • You may choose to allow the app to know your location.
  • If you don’t, fill in a postal code, city, or country in the next box.
  • Choose Georgina Public Library from the list.
  • Type in your 14-digit library card number and your PIN, and tap Log In.

Searching or Browsing 

The Home page will show you interesting songs, albums, artists, and playlists. 

  • Select the links on the Home page to explore Freegal by trends, new arrivals, playlists, or artists.
  • Select the Genres link in the navigation menu to browse by category.
  • Tap the search icon at the bottom of the screen on to browse by album title, song title, or artist name (on mobile devices) or enter a title or artist into the search box at the top of the page (on a computer).

Creating Playlists

You can create playlists to save your favourite songs.

  • Find a song you would like to add to a playlist.
  • Select the three dots to the right of the song name (on a mobile device) or the list icon to the right of the song name (on a computer).
  • Select Add to Playlist, then choose an existing playlist or Create New Playlist.
  • If you selected Create New Playlist, you can name your playlist and add a description (optional). When you are finished, select Create Playlist.

Gale eBooks--appealing to non-fiction readers

Gale eBooks offer patrons an award-winning, hassle-free eBook experience—anytime, anywhere, and on any device. 

Choose from the following non-fiction Gale eBook collections: Arts, Biography, Business, Education, Environment, General Reference, History, Information and Publishing, Law, Literature, Medicine, Multicultural Studies, Nation and World, Religion, Science, Social Science, and Technology.

hoopla--movies, television shows, ebooks, comics, and more

Borrow, listen, read, and enjoy on hoopla. Includes a selection of movies, television shows, educational/instructional videos, documentaries, music, eAudiobooks, eBooks, and comics via your browser, smartphone, or tablet (via iOS (Apple) devices and select Android devices). hoopla also supports Amazon Alexa devices including support for the Echo, Dot, Spot, and Show. No waiting lists. No holds. No late fees. Instant availability. Borrow 5 items per month. Get started enjoying hoopla.

hoopla now supports Amazon Alexa devices! You can play borrowed audiobooks and music albums directly on your Amazon Echo, Dot, Spot, and Show devices. Additionally, Alexa can tell you how many borrows you have left in the month, what you currently have borrowed, the Library’s phone number (if you need a person to talk with) and more!  When listening to music from Hoopla, you can use “Alexa next” or “Alexa previous” to go to the next/previous tracks. When asking Alexa to interact with Hoopla, phrase your command like this: “Alexa, ask hoopla…”

A hoopla eAudiobook experience is now available on Android and iPhone devices incorporating several key feature enhancements:

  • Car & Activity Mode is a simplified interface with fewer controls and larger buttons for when you’re on the go.
  • Chapter/Book Timer gives users a simple toggle to switch between viewing the time remaining in either the current chapter or the entire book.
  • Playback Speed options have been increased to up to four times normal playback speed.
  • Bookmark Notes can now be added to any audiobook bookmark, perfect for book clubs or educational listening.

hoopla has released TV apps for AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku, and Amazon FireTV 3rd Generation as well as the Chromecast Ultra device. Patrons can download a hoopla app to view content on their televisions. hoopla is not compatible with Kobo eReaders since they currently only support viewing in ePub, Adobe PDF, plain text, and HTML. The device must be able to download the hoopla digital app for it to be a compatible device as well as it has to run one of our supported operating systems. hoopla works on most devices running Android 4.4 and above and then all devices that run iOS 11.4 and above.

After downloading the hoopla app, you can download content to your device.​

How to download movies, TV shows, audiobooks and music:

  1. After you borrow an item, you'll see its info screen. 
  2. Tap the download prompt or Download to your device. 

Next tap the item's title to the right of its cover. If you tap the cover instead, the item will open. Tapping the title will take you to the info screen where you can Download to your device. The item will download; these are large files and can take several minutes. Once downloaded, the download prompt will now say This Title is Downloaded, with the option to delete it.

Kids Mode: open the hoopla app on your device, select "settings", and flip the toggle to put hoopla into Kids Mode. Doing so only affects the device and not your account. Need to turn off Kids Mode? Simply go back to settings and flip the toggle back to off.

Kanopy--educational movies

Discover a world of entertainment with Kanopy. Watch over 30,000 Documentaries, Classic and Indie Films, and courses on Kanopy. They include the following subjects: social sciences, global studies & languages, K-12 education, design, fashion, music, literature, business, health, nursing, medicine, children's health, media studies, marketing, biology, mathematics, philosophy & religion, biology, computer science & IT, psychology, sociology, justice studies, law, technical training, and more.

Available on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Chromecast.

  • Roku: add the Roku channel to your account here or download from the streaming channel store on your television
  • Chromecast: available through the iOS and Android app, as well as through a Chromecast browser
  • Apple Airplay: cast from your iOS device to your Apple TV
  • Apple TV (app available through app store)
  • HDMI: connect your computer to your television via HDMI cable (or Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable for Mac computers)

Gale Literature Resource Center covers more than 90,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2000 of the most-studied authors including biographies, bibliographies, and critical analysis of authors. 

LinkedIn Learning--online learning tutorials on business, software, technology, and creative skills

LinkedIn Learning features hundreds of training tutorials on a wide variety of business, software, technology, and creative skills, with new courses added all the time.

You will need to login with you full 14-digit library card number and your PIN. If you need a library card, or ff you don’t know your PIN,  please contact us. Want to get started right away, but can't make it to a branch to get a library card? Get an online card.  Online cards are good for 60 days.

Once logged in, create your profile. My Profile will help you track your progress in a chosen course, create playlists, and receive recommended Learning Paths based on your interests.

Access to the LinkedIn Learning video library of courses and tutorials on software, technology, creative, and business skills designed, and taught by recognized industry experts.

  • Login with you 14-digit card number and your PIN.

To access the navigation panel, select the three lines located on the top left. From here, you can jump between your home page, library, playlists, downloads, course history, settings, and help.

Topics:

  • Tap "Topics".
  • Choose the subject headings of Business, Creative or Technology.
  • Choose videos within the chosen subject heading.
  • Tap on the thumbnail of the video you want to start.
Search Bar
  • Select the magnifying glass in the search bar at the top.
  • Search for skills, subjects, or software.
