Babysitting Courses 

The Georgina Public Library Photo/Video Release Waiver is your written, express permission for Georgina Public Library to use your image or video within our social media channels, website, and other forms of local media. No printer needed. Just fill out the form, and we will take care of the rest. If you do not possess a printer to do so, please go to our Georgina Public Library Photo/Video Release Waiver in Google Docs, and fill out the form there. Georgina Public Library Online Participation Agreement and Waiver Form is to be filled out by those who participate in our online programs.

Practice your public speaking skills by showing and telling all about your real or stuffed toy pet with us on Zoom.

In order to participate, you must fill out the Photo Release Waiver and Participant Waiver. Once both waivers are received, an email containing the Zoom link will be emailed to registered participants on Monday, February 15.

Well, we tried it, and it was GREAT! Join Miss Sara and other LEGOmaniacs each week for a fun-filled half hour of building and sharing on Zoom. Club size is limited. Pre-registration is required. In order to participate, you must fill out the Photo Release Waiver and the Participant Waiver for each child. Club size is limited. An email containing the Zoom link will be sent out to registered participants upon receipt of completed waivers.*Parental supervision is recommended, but parental participation is not required.  Club meetings are recorded, but not shared with participants or the public.

Coming to a kitchen near you! Join Miss Rachel as she teaches some kid-friendly treats you can make at home. This live program is perfect to get your whole family involved in the kitchen. Recipes will be posted to our social media ahead of time so you can make sure you have the ingredients on hand.
Recipes may require use of the oven or stove and require an adult’s permission/guidance.

 Rice Crispy Treats -- January 13

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 package (10 oz., about 40) Marshmallows or 4 cups Miniature Marshmallows
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter
  • 6 cups Kellogg's® Rice Krispies® cereal

Directions:

In large saucepan melt butter over low heat. Add marshmallows and stir until completely melted. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter until melted.

Add Rice Krispies® cereal. Stir until well coated. Using buttered spatula or wax paper, evenly press mixture into 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan coated with cooking spray. Cool. Cut into 2-inch squares. Best if served the same day.

 Cauliflower Mac and Cheese -- January 20

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/4 cup macaroni noodles
  • 1 head of cauliflower
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 tablespoons of flour
  • 2 teaspoons of mustard (Dijon, if you have)
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup of grated cheddar cheese

Directions:

Fill a large pot with water and sprinkle salt in it. Cover and let boil. Cut the cauliflower into bite-size pieces. Once the water is boiled, follow instructions on cooking macaroni, and add cauliflower in the last 4 minutes. Once finished, drain, and set aside.

In a large pan, melt the butter, then stir in flour and mustard. Cook for 2 minutes. Gradually add the milk while stirring constantly. Add most of the cheese (save some for sprinkling on top). Grease a lasagna/casserole dish (approximately 9 x 13 inches), and place noodles and cauliflower in pan. Pour sauce on top, and mix well. Add remaining cheese on top and broil in the oven for 5 minutes. Let it sit for a bit, and then serve.

 Chocolate N'Ice Cream -- January 27

Ingredients:

  • 3 Ripe Bananas
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp. maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp. water
  • Pinch of salt

Optional: 1/4 cup of chocolate chips

Directions:

Slice bananas and place flat into a Ziploc bag. Freeze until solid, 2 hours or overnight (If you do not have a food processor and have a blender slice banana thinly and add more water/milk to the mix).

In a food processor, add frozen banana slices, cocoa powder, maple syrup, water, and salt. Puree until smooth and creamy, about 3 minutes. Add chocolate chips and pulse until just incorporated.

Transfer mixture to a loaf pan. Freeze until firm, another hour.

 Easy Apple Fritters -- February 3

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 apples
  • Pancake mix
  • Water/milk
  • Egg
  • Butter or oil for frying

OPTIONAL: cinnamon sugar

Directions:

Peel the apples and take the core out. Slice into donut shapes around 1/4 inch thick. Follow the instructions on the box of pancake mix to make batter. Heat up the frying pan or griddle and add oil or butter to the surface, when it starts to sizzle the surface is hot enough to cook.

Dip the apples in pancake batter and place on hot surface. Once they start to brown on one side flip and cook until both side are brown. Sprinkle some cinnamon sugar on top and serve.

 Chocolate Pudding -- February 10

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 2 tablespoons. butter
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

OPTIONAL: Whipped cream

Directions:

In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar, cocoa, cornstarch and salt. Gradually add milk. Bring to a boil over medium heat; boil and stir for 2 minutes. Remove from the heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Spoon into individual serving dishes. Chill until serving. If desired, garnish with whipped cream.

 Quiche -- February 17

Ingredients:

  • 1 pie shell
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup of milk/light cream

Optional: Cheese, Mustard, Ham, Vegetables (spinach, peas of Broccoli)

Directions: 

Preheat oven to 350°F.  

In a bowl, crack eggs and whisk in milk/cream; add additional ingredients. Pour mix into pie shell. Bake for 35-40 minutes, and let sit 5-10 minutes.

 Grilled Cheese -- February 24

Ingredients:

  • Cheddar cheese
  • Butter or Margarine
  • Sliced bread

Optional: ketchup

Directions:

Slice the cheese if it is not in slices already. Spread butter on one side of two slices of bread. Assemble your sandwich with the buttered side of the bread facing out and the cheese between the bread.

Using a griddle or a pan, turn the heat on high and place butter in the pan. When it starts to sizzle, place the sandwich onto the pan/griddle, and let cook until one side is brown (check after 2-3 minutes), flip the sandwich, and let cook until brown. Remove from heat when cooked and enjoy!

Cookie Pizza -- March 3

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Icing:

  • 1 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons. milk
  • 1/2 teaspoons vanilla

OPTIONAL:  Pecan halves, candies, sprinkles, coconut, chocolate chips, dried fruit

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350°F.  In a large bowl beat together butter and sugars until creamy, then stir in the egg. Add the flour and baking soda and blend well. Pat the dough into a baking sheet circle approximately 12 inches across. Bake 15 minutes until golden brown and let cool.

For the icing beat all the ingredients together until smooth. Spread the icing on the cookie and add desired toppings (chocolate chips can be melted and drizzled on top). Cut the pizza into wedges and enjoy.

This is one of Jo's all-time favourite book series for kids. Why?  They are written in diary style, the characters are fun and almost believable, and some of the situations remind me of things that happened when I was in elementary school.  It's best to read them in order.

Episode 49 of "The Day Henry Met…”on Kanopy Kid:  features Henry meeting and talking to a pair of running shoes! Here is a great link to show you how easy an at-home "Shoe Store" is to create.

Playing shoe store helps children to sort by size, colour, matching, and shoe purpose. They learn concepts such as too big and too small, and practicing putting on and taking off shoes helps children increase their finger dexterity and readies them for changing into indoor shoes at school.

We’re celebrating Mother's Day, so Jo reads "Llama Llama Gram and Grandpa", by Anna Dewdney, published by Viking Books for Young Readers. We also learn how to use shaving cream for sensory play, art, and even literacy!
