Quickstart Guide to Using the Library

Georgina Public Library offers a large variety of eBooks to read on your computer, iPad, eReader, smartphone, or other digital devices. You need your library card number and PIN to access.

hoopla

Borrow, listen, read, and enjoy on hoopla. Includes a selection of movies, television shows, educational/instructional videos, documentaries, music, eAudiobooks, eBooks, and comics via your browser, smartphone, or tablet (via iOS (Apple) devices and select Android devices). hoopla also supports Amazon Alexa devices including support for the Echo, Dot, Spot, and Show. No waiting lists. No holds. No late fees. Instant availability. Borrow 5 items per month. Get started enjoying hoopla.

hoopla now supports Amazon Alexa devices! You can play borrowed audiobooks and music albums directly on your Amazon Echo, Dot, Spot, and Show devices. Additionally, Alexa can tell you how many borrows you have left in the month, what you currently have borrowed, the Library’s phone number (if you need a person to talk with) and more!  When listening to music from Hoopla, you can use “Alexa next” or “Alexa previous” to go to the next/previous tracks. When asking Alexa to interact with Hoopla, phrase your command like this: “Alexa, ask hoopla…”

A hoopla eAudiobook experience is now available on Android and iPhone devices incorporating several key feature enhancements:

  • Car & Activity Mode is a simplified interface with fewer controls and larger buttons for when you’re on the go.
  • Chapter/Book Timer gives users a simple toggle to switch between viewing the time remaining in either the current chapter or the entire book.
  • Playback Speed options have been increased to up to four times normal playback speed.
  • Bookmark Notes can now be added to any audiobook bookmark, perfect for book clubs or educational listening.
  • Sleep Timer has more options, including an End of Chapter option. Read more and watch the tutorial about these feature enhancements.

hoopla has released TV apps for AppleTV, AndroidTV, Roku, and Amazon FireTV 3rd Generation as well as the Chromecast Ultra device. Patrons can download a hoopla app to view content on their televisions. hoopla is not compatible with Kobo eReaders since they currently only support viewing in ePub, Adobe PDF, plain text, and HTML. The device must be able to download the hoopla digital app for it to be a compatible device as well as it has to run one of our supported operating systems. hoopla works on most devices running Android 4.4 and above and then all devices that run iOS 11.4 and above.

After downloading the hoopla app, you can download content to your device.​

How to download movies, TV shows, audiobooks and music:

  1. After you borrow an item, you'll see its info screen. 
  2. Tap the download prompt or Download to your device. 

Next tap the item's title to the right of its cover. If you tap the cover instead, the item will open. Tapping the title will take you to the info screen where you can Download to your device. The item will download; these are large files and can take several minutes. Once downloaded, the download prompt will now say This Title is Downloaded, with the option to delete it.

Kids Mode: open the hoopla app on your device, select "settings", and flip the toggle to put hoopla into Kids Mode. Doing so only affects the device and not your account. Need to turn off Kids Mode? Simply go back to settings and flip the toggle back to off.

Pressreader offers 7,000 magazines and newspapers in 60 different languages. Read instantly, or download for later. Access on a mobile device or desktop. Unlimited downloads with free access with your library card/PIN. Pressreader app is available in App Store and Google Play Store. Click Sign In, and choose "Library or Group", search and select "Georgina Public Library (Offsite)", and login with your 14-digit library card number (no spaces) and your PIN and start reading.  Please note, users will need to sign in with your library card and PIN every 30 days.

TumbleBook Library

TumbleBook Library has over 1100 titles for Grades Kindergarten to Grade 6, and includes unique animated, talking picture books, read-along chapter books, National Geographic videos, non-fiction books, playlists, as well as books in Spanish and French. Plus, the collection features Graphic Novels and includes storybooks, read alongs, comics, math, puzzles, and games. It’s a great resource for tech-savvy kids, and teaches them the joy of reading in a format they’ll love.

Tablets and smartphones:  

Content can be downloaded directly to your device using the OverDrive app  and/or the Libby app. Downloaded titles cannot be copied to other devices.
