Truth and Reconciliation |
At GPL, we grieve for the tragic loss of the Indigenous children whose remains have been found in mass graves at a former residential schools across Canada. It is our mission to have resources that shed light on current issues in our local and broader community. We hope the highlighted resources encourage lifelong learning, and open your minds to the experiences of those children whose lives were cut short, and the families, communities, and survivors who continue to live with the effects of residential schools.
Below are lists of recommended reading and watching available in our library to help bring information about residential schools and our shared history to our community. For more information, please see online at nctr.ca
Additional resources for children and families can be found at: https://fncaringsociety.com/. Information about National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is available from the Government of Canada's website at canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/national-day-truth-reconciliation.

April Poetry Month |
Launched by the Academy of American Poets in April 1996, National Poetry Month reminds the public that poets have an integral role to play in our culture and that poetry matters. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K–12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, families, and, of course, poets, marking poetry's important place in our lives. In 2021, the Academy of American Poets looks forward to celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of this annual celebration!”
