As a little girl my mother took me to a large building filled with books. This was the first of a lifetime of visits to the library. Over the years the library helped me learn as I grew. I used local libraries, hospital libraries, large reference libraries, and online university libraries. As times changed, so did the libraries.
To me the library is a hub of community activity. My library provides programs where children have fun and learn at the same time, staff who will assist a senior to Skype, and computers available to allow people of all ages to use email and surf the internet.
My library has large print and audio books available for those with print disabilities, and provides a quiet place for students to be tutored or to research for assignments. It has quiet areas for those who want to just sit and read.
I am pleased to be part of the past, the present, and look forward to being part of an exciting future as libraries continue to grow to meet the needs of our diverse, expanding population.
