Auto Renewals are Coming!

We’re excited to introduce automatic renewals, making it easier than ever to enjoy your library materials without worrying about due dates.

Starting Saturday, May 15, eligible items on your account will be automatically renewed before their due date—no action required.

What you need to know:

  • Items will automatically renew if: there are no holds on the item, and the item has not reached its maximum number of renewals
  • If an item cannot be renewed, you’ll be responsible for returning it by the due date
  • You can still renew items yourself at any time
  • What this means for you
  • No need to manually renew most items
  • More time to enjoy your materials, and
  • Fewer overdue items.

Check your due dates regularly through your online account or by contacting us.

If you have any questions, please reach out—we’re happy to help!

Auto Renewal FAQs

What are automatic renewals?
Automatic renewals mean that eligible items you borrow will renew themselves before their due date—so you don’t have to.
Do I need to do anything?
No—if your item is eligible, it will renew automatically.
 Why didn't my item renew?
  • The item is not allowed to be renewed because it is a popular item
  • Another customer has placed a hold on it
  • It has reached the maximum number of renewals
  • Your account has an issue (e.g., expired card, excessive fines)
How will I know if something didn’t renew?
You are responsible for checking your account. If an item cannot be renewed, it must be returned by the due date.
How many times will items renew?
Items will renew automatically up to their borrowing period limits,(see chart above) as long as no one else is waiting for them.
Can I still renew items myself?
Yes—you can renew items anytime through your account.
Will all items automatically renew?
Most items will, but some exceptions may apply (e.g., high-demand materials, special collections).
Where can I check my due dates?
You can view all due dates and renewal activity through your online library account, or by contacting us in person, over email or over the phone
Can I still renew my items myself?
  • You may renew materials by clicking on My Account in our online catalogue or downloading the GPL app from the App Store or Google Play.
  • Renew items logging into your account through our catalogue or contact us.

Items are considered lost if they are more than one month overdue, so remember to return or renew your materials on time.
