Paul Nicholls 1957-2017
It is with great sorrow that we share the news that our Library Board Chair, Paul Nicholls, passed away on February 23, 2017. Paul had been part of the Board since 1995, first as Council representative, then assuming the role of Acting Chair in 2000, and Chair in 2003 until the present. He was always a stalwart, and passionate supporter of the Library and its value to the community, and of the staff who deliver services "opening doors and minds".
In the words of Suzette Leeming, Library Board Vice-Chair:
"Paul never said No. Whenever he was asked to take on a project, help out in some way with the town, sit on a board, help review bylaws for a non-profit organization, he never said No. Through it all, he remained humble and the only spotlight he sought was in front of a camera as an actor, or on Rogers TV, which he absolutely loved doing. I am a better person for having known Paul, for his corny jokes, his awesome recipes, his dedication and commitment to his family and his community, and his ability to set goals for himself and to reach them. Through the example he set, he taught others to be a better person, a better member of their community, and to always remember to have fun and be able to laugh."
We will all miss Paul, his leadership, his mentorship, his "mis-pronouncing" at the Grate Groan Up Spelling Bee, and his smile.
Thanks, Paul, for being part of our lives. Rest in Peace.
